The Great Controversy

By Ty Gibson

What if you could have a sharing book that was the perfect match for the times in which we live— read more...

• a book containing the rich truths of the gospel along with a clear delineation of final events,
• a book that would explain the key issues and principles at stake at this crucial juncture of history,
• a book that would forthrightly issue a warning against the world systems that advance the cause of the enemy while appealing to the individual conscience to stand in loyalty to the principles of truth, liberty and the love of God,
• a book written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit with our very times in mind,
• and, therefore, a book you could be certain the Lord wants every person on earth to read?
Well, you have such a book at your disposal. It's already been written: The Great Controversy, by Ellen White.

It is impossible to exaggerate the importance of this book for the times in which we live. It is a work of history, eschatology and theology all in one. It contains an accurate historical record of the key events following the crucifixion of Christ right up through the Great Apostasy, the Protestant Reformation and the birth of the Advent movement. Then it goes on to outline the key events that will lead to the culmination of the war between good and evil. Simultaneously, as history is chronicled and the future foretold, this amazing volume unfolds the key doctrinal truths that illuminate the mind regarding the character of God and the gospel of Christ. The information contained in The Great Controversy can only be categorized as extremely vital. This book is more valuable than gold.
In a joint project between the North Pacific Union and Light Bearers Ministry, a new edition of The Great Controversy has been printed. In our warehouse we have 154,000 copies on seventy pallets ready for distribution. We are so deeply convicted that this book needs to be distributed that we are making it available by the box at the cost of printing. We urge you to secure a box to have them on hand in your home and car. It is so beautifully designed that each person you offer a copy will sense that something of value and importance is being shared with them. Money cannot be better spent.
Our days are numbered. Souls are hanging in the balance between life and death. Many are watching world events with intense curiosity as to what the future holds. This book lifts the veil, spoils the schemes of the enemy and exalts Christ as the only hope for a confused and perishing world. It is time to spread this message!

Giants At The Border

By James Rafferty

The history of Caleb is worth reading again and again, especially as we face social, economic and political giants in our world today. On the very borders of the Promised Land, reports of the giants of Anak filled God’s people with fear (Numbers 13:33). Only Joshua and Caleb believed that they could stand up to this ″great and tall″ people (Deuteronomy 9:2). Over forty years later, when Caleb was the ″oldest man in Israel″ (except for 110 year old Joshua), he was given the land of the Anakites (Joshua 15:13, 24:29; Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 511). This senior citizen then drove out the sons of Anak, the giants that had put so much fear into God′s people (Joshua 15:14). read more...

God is all about taking down the giants in our lives today just as He did with Caleb! We saw God take out a couple of significant giants just recently here at Light Bearers Ministry.
It was Tuesday, November 17, 2009, when a driver pulled into Light Bearers Ministry with an empty container ready to be filled with literature and books, all in Portuguese. This particular container would carry over 2 million studies on Daniel and Revelation and over 12 thousand Steps to Christ magazines to the country of Angola. This is just over 800 boxes of truth-filled literature. The majority of these boxes weigh 55-60 pounds and each box must be hand–loaded in order to use every bit of space available (not a job for weaklings).
Rewind to 2006—when we first began loading containers here in Jasper, Oregon, an average load time was between 1.5 to 2 hours start to finish. The truckers allow 2 hours to load or we pay an extra wait time charge. So when a truck pulled in with a container it was ″all hands on deck″ so to speak.
Fast forward to 2009—now when a truck pulls into Light Bearers, Laurelwood Academy sends over a team of strong energetic students. So on that Tuesday I left for lunch shortly after the container arrived. When I returned, the truck and the container were gone. I am still in awe as I think about it. Those students from Laurelwood helped our publishing house staff load a container of literature—over 800 heavy boxes by hand in under one hour—but that was not all.
This particular container was not only the fastest container ever loaded, it was also the 23rd container shipped for the year 2009. This was another giant, a number never reached in a single year. In 2001, Light Bearers printed 22 containers, but since that time we had steadily declined to about 12 per year (the average number of containers printed from 1990 through 2008 was 6 per year, though our average for the last few years has doubled from that to 12.6). So that Tuesday, November 17 was a powerful revelation of God's blessing on the work here at Light Bearers! But there's still more.
Not only was the benchmark set in 2001 surpassed for number of containers shipped, but three more were added to that number, bringing the total for 2009 to 26 containers. That equals over 52 million pieces of literature in one year. Praise God!
With this in mind, the New Year looms before us with new giants to conquer, but we are armed with thanksgiving to God and faith in His heavenly mandate: ″And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory″ (Revelation 18:1).
″In a large degree through our publishing houses is to be accomplished the work of that other angel who comes down from heaven with great power and who lightens the earth with his glory″ (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 7, p. 140).
″Canvassers should have the fact impressed upon them that the canvassing work is the very work the Lord would have them do. The work of the canvasser is to bring before the world as fast as possible the light that God has given. The publications will do a far greater work than can be accomplished even by the ministry of the word, because the canvassers reach a class that ministers who teach in word and doctrine cannot reach. From the light given me, I know that where there is one canvasser in the field there should be one hundred. Persons should be encouraged to take hold of the work, not to handle the little story books, but to bring before the world the books so essential at this time″ (The Bible Echo, September 18, 1899, par. 2).
To help fulfill this mandate, God has just provided Light Bearers with 154,000 ″essential″ Great Controversy books. At this point, we have requests for over 20 containers for 2010, 17 of which will receive some portion of English materials, including thousands of The Great Controversy books.
The economy looms as a giant before us, 26 containers is another giant goal, but God has conquered giants before. Besides, the words of Caleb still ring in our ears: ″And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it″ (Numbers 13:30). Amen!
For Light Bearers, 2009 was a divine miracle when you consider that our publishing budget was for 12 containers, not 26. And all who have supported this ministry are a part of this miracle. Thank you.
We stand on the borders of the heavenly Canaan and to all you Joshuas and Calebs, here's the giant challenge—make a prayer-determined commitment to send Light Bearers a faith based donation for every container we send out. We have our marching orders. It will be exciting to see the walls that God brings down as we enter by faith into the heavenly Canaan. Amen.

  Consider This ...   Speaking Schedule
Reliance upon human merit intercepts the view of Christ's infinite love. Jesus died as a sacrifice for man because the fallen race can do nothing to recommend themselves to God. The merits of a crucified and risen Savior are the foundation of the Christian’s faith.
           Ellen G. White,
           The Great Controversy, p. 73
It was popery that had begun the work which atheism was completing. . . . The only god they knew was the god of Rome; her teaching was their only religion. They regarded her greed and cruelty as the legitimate fruit of the Bible and they would have none of it. Rome had misrepresented the character of God, and perverted his requirements, and now men rejected both the Bible and its Author.
            Ellen G. White,
            The Great Controversy, p. 276, 281
The Roman Church is far–reaching in her plans and modes of operation. She is employing every device to extend her influence and increase her power in preparation for a fierce and determined conflict to regain control of the world, to re–establish persecution, and to undo all that Protestantism has done.
             Ellen G. White,
             The Great Controversy, p. 565
It is Satan's constant effort to misrepresent the character of God, the nature of sin, and the real issues at stake in the great controversy. His sophistry lessens the obligation of the divine law, and gives men license to sin. At the same time he causes them to cherish false conceptions of God, so that they regard Him with fear and hate, rather than with love. The cruelty inherent in his own character is attributed to the Creator; it is embodied in systems of religion, and expressed in modes of worship.
              Ellen G. White,
              The Great Controversy, pp. 568-569
Through the two great errors, the immortality of the soul, and Sunday sacredness, Satan will bring the people under his deceptions. While the former lays the foundation of Spiritualism, the latter creates a bond of sympathy with Rome. The Protestants of the United States will be foremost in stretching their hands across the gulf to grasp the hand of Spiritualism; they will reach over the abyss to clasp hands with the Roman power; and under the influence of this threefold union, this country will follow in the steps of Rome in trampling on the rights of conscience.
               Ellen G. White,
               The Great Controversy, p. 588
The mystery of the cross explains all other mysteries. In the light that streams from Calvary, the attributes of God which had filled us with fear and awe appear beautiful and attractive. Mercy, tenderness, and parental love are seen to blend with holiness, justice, and power.

                The Great Controversy, p. 652.
